Join Don Hoffman for an engaging and insightful presentation, “What Took Me 30 Years to Learn About Project Management,” where he reflects on his extensive career in project management. Drawing from his experiences as a project team member, leader, functional manager, portfolio manager, and beyond, Don will share the most impactful lessons he’s learned over three decades. This session promises to be a lively discussion covering a variety of key topics, including trust models, risk burn-down approaches, lean start-up methodologies, organizational mojo, and much more. Whether you’re new to project management or a seasoned professional, this presentation will offer valuable takeaways to help you navigate the complexities of managing projects and teams effectively.
Learning Objectives:
Don Hoffman began his career in 1983 as a Mechanical Engineer at RCA Government Communication Systems, working on SATCOM programs in Camden, NJ. From the start, he has been deeply interested in how project teams function and succeed. Over the years, his understanding of team dynamics has been shaped by his experiences navigating diverse corporate cultures during the outsourcing wave of the 1990s, the Perry Initiative, and numerous mergers and acquisitions, including RCA’s evolution into GE Aerospace, Martin Marietta, and eventually Lockheed Martin.
With 12 years in Engineering Design and 17 years in Operations Engineering and Production Management across four locations of varying sizes, Don has worked in a wide range of organizational settings—union and non-union, hardware-focused and software-focused, matrixed and distributed. These experiences have given him a unique perspective on leadership, team performance, and operational excellence.
Since leaving Lockheed Martin in 2012, Don has built upon his extensive leadership training and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification by earning his PMP certification. He has since applied this expertise as Director of Manufacturing and Supply Chain at Digital Signal Corporation, Closet America, Meggitt Baltimore, and currently at Sierra Nevada Corporation.
In every role, Don has been dedicated to driving performance excellence while prioritizing team health and employee development. A champion for growing future leaders through leadership development programs (LDPs), he is passionate about transforming difficult challenges into opportunities for growth and success
