Topic: What Leadership Means to Us: An Introduction to Leadership Montgomery
PDU: 1.75 – Business Acumen
Presenter: Ms. Kaarmin Ford, MA
Presentation Abstract:

What Leadership Means to Us: An Introduction to Leadership Montgomery offers a dynamic overview of how Leadership Montgomery cultivates inclusive, impactful leadership across sectors in Montgomery County. This session introduces participants to the organization’s mission, values, and programming, with a special focus on the Emerging Leaders program—a transformative experience designed for early-career professionals seeking to expand their influence, build cross-sector relationships, and engage meaningfully with their community.

Central to all Leadership Montgomery initiatives is the Community Leadership Framework, a guiding model that emphasizes self-awareness, relationship-building, systems thinking, and collaborative action. This framework equips participants to lead with purpose, equity, and strategic insight—whether in the workplace, in civic life, or within local communities.

Founded in 1989, Leadership Montgomery has graduated thousands of leaders through its signature programs, including Core, Emerging Leaders, and Senior Leadership Montgomery. The organization also offers customized training, nonprofit board matching, and alumni engagement opportunities. Whether you’re new to leadership or looking to deepen your impact, this presentation will illuminate how Leadership Montgomery fosters a network of changemakers committed to strengthening Montgomery County through informed, connected, and compassionate leadership.

Learning Objectives:
  • Understand the Mission and Impact of Leadership Montgomery Participants will gain a foundational understanding of Leadership Montgomery’s history, purpose, and role in developing cross-sector leaders who strengthen Montgomery County.
  • Explore the Community Leadership Framework Participants will examine the core components of the Community Leadership Framework and learn how it informs Leadership Montgomery’s approach to leadership development across all programs.
  • Identify Key Features of the Emerging Leaders Program Participants will learn about the structure, goals, and benefits of the Emerging Leaders program, and how it supports early-career professionals in building leadership capacity and community engagement.
