SUMMARY:PMI-MC Chapter Event: April Lunch & Learn
DESCRIPTION:PMI-Montgomery County MD Chapter April 2024 Monthly Lunch & Learn Event\nFriday\,  April 25th 2025\n11:45 – 1:00pm\n\nVirtual Member/Non-Member Cost: $0\n\n\nTopic: Scaling Agile Teams: Focus\, Frameworks\, and Pitfalls to Avoid\nSpeaker: Mr. Richard Cheng (PMP\, PMI-ACP\, CSM\, CSPO\, Active MENSA Member)\nPDU: 1.2 – Ways of Working\n\n\nPresentation Abstract:\n\nAs organizations grow\, so do the complexities of managing multiple Agile teams. One of the fundamental challenges in scaling Agile is ensuring team members are dedicated to a single team rather than being spread thin across multiple teams. This session will explore why team focus is critical for Agile success and how context switching can erode productivity and engagement. \nFrom there\, we’ll examine common scaling frameworks such as the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and Large-Scale Scrum (LeSS)—discussing their key principles\, differences\, and practical applications. While these frameworks offer structured approaches to scaling\, they also come with challenges that can hinder agility rather than enhance it. \nThrough real-world insights\, we’ll highlight traps to avoid when working with multiple Agile teams\, such as misaligned backlogs\, ineffective synchronization\, and over-reliance on rigid processes. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of how to scale Agile effectively while maintaining the core values of collaboration\, adaptability\, and continuous improvement. \nThis interactive session is ideal for project managers\, Agile practitioners\, and leaders navigating the complexities of scaling Agile in their organizations. \nPresentation Learning Objectives:  \n\n\nIdentify and analyze common challenges in scaling Agile across multiple teams\, including shifting priorities\, managing dependencies\, and context switching. \n\n\nApply practical strategies and patterns to align cross-functional teams and foster cohesive collaboration that maximizes value delivery in a scaled Agile environment. \n\n\nCompare and evaluate popular Agile scaling frameworks (e.g.\, SAFe\, LeSS\, Scrum@Scale) to determine which approaches and tools best fit your organization’s specific scaling needs. \n\n\n\nPresenter Bio: \nRichard Cheng is the founder of Agility Prime Solutions\, which provides transformative training and coaching in Agile concepts and methods. As a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) and an Agile coach with deep real-world experiences\, Richard brings his diverse experiences to share how Agile works in different environments. He has worked with large organizations such as the Nasdaq Stock Market and Progressive Insurance\, leading-edge companies like Dashlane and The Motley Fool\, federal agencies like the Office of Personnel Management and Department of Defense\, and non-profits and associations such as the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators and the American Association of Medical Colleges. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a powerful tool that can complement traditional project management methodologies and enhance their effectiveness. \nThis presentation explores the symbiotic relationship between AI and project management\, shedding light on how AI can be seamlessly integrated into project management practices to optimize processes\, improve decision-making\, and drive project success. \nWe will delve into various aspects of this synergy\, including: \n\nPredictive Analytics: AI-powered algorithms can analyze historical project data to forecast potential risks\, resource requirements\, and project completion times. This enables project managers to make data-driven decisions and allocate resources more efficiently.\nAutomated Task Management: AI-driven task automation can streamline routine project management tasks\, allowing project managers to focus on strategic activities and creative problem-solving.\nIntelligent Resource Allocation: AI can analyze team members’ skills\, availability\, and workload to suggest optimal resource allocations\, ensuring that projects are staffed with the right expertise at the right time.\nReal-time Monitoring: AI-powered dashboards provide real-time insights into project progress\, helping project managers identify bottlenecks and areas requiring immediate attention.\nNatural Language Processing (NLP): NLP can facilitate better communication and collaboration within project teams by extracting valuable insights from project-related documents\, emails\, and chats.\nRisk Management: AI can identify potential risks and propose mitigation strategies\, helping project managers proactively address issues before they escalate.\n\nThis presentation will showcase real-world examples of organizations successfully integrating AI into their project management practices\, resulting in improved efficiency\, cost savings\, and overall project outcomes. Moreover\, we will discuss the ethical considerations and challenges associated with AI implementation in project management and strategies for overcoming them. \nBy the end of this session\, attendees will have a comprehensive understanding of how AI can be a valuable complement to project management\, helping organizations adapt to the dynamic nature of today’s projects and drive better project outcomes. Join us in exploring the future of project management powered by AI. \n\nPresenters Bio: \n\nWith 20+ years of experience in Government IT serving the Department of Defense\, Department of Homeland Security and the Environmental Protection Agency\, Mr. Lowy has gained many perspectives on how project management has progressed thus far in the 21st century.
