The PMI Montgomery County, MD Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI) is delighted to announce the winners of the 2011-2012 scholarship program:

For the Member Scholarship, a new program for the 2011-2012 year, the winner is:

Tyler Schaeberle, son of Chapter member Jeffrey Schaeberle

Tyler Schaeberle is a graduating senior at Frederick High School and plans to attend Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia to major in photography. He is a Boy Scout celebrating the rank of Eagle Scout in April, 2012. While he knew a bit about project management from his dad, he had to do some research to successfully complete the quiz. He found project management techniques most useful for his Eagle project. In addition, Tyler is a lifeguard at his school and will be working at the Y this summer. Congratulations to Tyler Schaeberle!

For the Open Montgomery County Scholarship, an annual program established in 2006, the winner is:

Laura Hayes

Laura Hayes is a graduating senior at Quince Orchard High School and plans to attend Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina to major in communications. She is the co-editor of her high school’s literary magazine and is President of the French Honors Society, as well as VP of the Red Cross Club and Secretary of English Honors. Additionally, she has found time to play volleyball on the JV and Varsity teams and ran this year on the track team. Laura knew “bits and pieces” about project management from her mom, Carol Ann Hayes, also a Chapter member; however, she did additional research to successfully complete the quiz. She found the visual aids very helpful and was surprised by the amount of structure and stages. Congratulations to Laura Hayes

Here is some information about this year’s scholarship applicants:

• It provided a learning experience for students and teachers through the Project Management qualifying quiz with 93% meeting requirement
• The applicant average GPA of 3.65
• 79% of applicants overall qualified
• 2011-2012 is the 1st year to add a Member Scholarship – all qualified

For the open Montgomery County scholarship, there were applicants from 12 high schools. We distribute information on this scholarship to all public and private high schools within the country.

 

2011 PMI Scholarship Awarded

We are very pleased to announce that Stephanie Martinez, a graduating senior at Watkins Mill High School in Gaithersburg, MD, is the winner of the 2010-2011 PMI Montgomery County MD Chapter Scholarship. She successfully completed the Project Management quiz, properly provided all the needed information and signatures, and was randomly selected as this year’s winner.

Stephanie will be attending the University of Maryland at College Park in the fall. She plans to major in Civil Engineering. Through applying for this scholarship, she learned a lot about project management and believes this will be part of her future career.

 

2010 Scholarship Awarded

We are very pleased to announce that Jiayi N. Yang, a graduating senior at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD, is the winner of the 2009-2010 PMI Montgomery County MD Chapter Scholarship. He successfully completed the Project Management quiz, properly provided all the needed information and signatures, and was randomly selected as this year’s winner. He will be attending the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in the fall. He plans to major in business management and will be taking a project management class after learning about what this is through the scholarship quiz.

 

2009 Scholarship Awarded

Congratulations to Brittney (Brit) Hicks of James H. Blake High School, for her selection in our PMI Montgomery County Chapter scholarship. She successfully passed a quiz, which covered the basics of project management, and was selected by the board at random to receive the scholarship.

She has been accepted and plans to attend Liberty University.

We wish here the best of luck for the future!

 

2007 Scholarship Awarded

The PMI Montgomery County $1000 2007 Scholarship was awarded to Sammantha Chin of Gaithersburg High School. She will be attending UMBC this upcoming year. We wish her the best in her future endeavors.
